DISPATCHES

#21. 01-21-06 Surfer's Paradise Australia: 2239 hrs. In the hotel room. Today we flew here from Auckland. I ran into Iggy at the airport and talked to him briefly as well as Stooges drummer Scott Ashton. I haven't seem Scot in a long time.
It's a Saturday and it's a day off. Sure is strange not doing a show on a Saturday night but that's the way the shows are falling.
I found out something interesting tonight. Apparently, this tour was to have a bit of a different line-up. Tool was supposed to headline the thing with the Pixies going on before them. The White Stripes were third on the bill. The Stooges were a last minute add.
I walked up and down the streets here and saw a lot of people, mostly young. This a vacation and hang out spot. I have been up here for shows many times before.
I saw a brief report on the problems Australia is having with these white power "Australia First" idiots. No country is free of this kind of thing but it's sad to see it here. Humans can be such a letdown. Here's an article about it: http://www.news.com.au/story/0,10117,17870098-29277,00.html.
There's nothing happening outside tonight besides loud people. I am going to get some reading and writing done and wait to get to the venue for the show. Looking forward to seeing the Stooges.
