DISPATCHES

#282. 10-12-06 Washington DC: 2130 hrs. Got in a few hours ago and immediately went outside. I have been walking for hours. I went to Dupont Circle and walked around there for a little while, that’s one of my favorite walks. I hit a few landmarks and walked back here to the hotel. I am going to eat a little and take a walk through the old neighborhood and see the house I was living in when Nixon resigned. I remember picking up the Post off the front porch and seeing that headline. It’s so great to be here. This evening was very cool and overcast, perfect weather for October. I have been looking forward to this trip for a long time. I met a young man from the Army at baggage claim. He said he had been stationed in Iraq and was at one of the bases I had visited but didn’t get a chance to meet me but thanked me for making the trip. It was good to meet him. I am looking forward to my next USO trip in December. It’s too bad there’s a need for USO but if these people are out there, then I can make the trip. How many of the Fox News guys get out there besides Gerry Rivers?
