DISPATCHES

#305. 11-04-06 LA CA: 2213 hrs. I went to a function tonight. It was the Swindle Magazine celebration for their Icons issue. I went because it was a Shepard Fairey thing and he did a lot of the artwork on the IFC show and he’s a very talented artist and a good guy so I went out of respect and to thank him for all that because chances are I am not going to run into him any other way. So I went to the Roosevelt Hotel and went to the suite where the thing was happening. I talked to Shepard for a few minutes and talked to some of the other guests for a little while and then after 90 minutes when dinner was about to be served, I couldn’t do it any more so I told Shepard thanks and left. The people there were very cool but it really isn’t my scene so I left before I was seated at a table in a situation that would take awhile to get out of. It was a relief to be out of there. I hope I didn’t offend Shepard. I heard some interesting points of view from two women I was talking with. They were my age and were telling me that they prefer twenty-something year old guys. I asked them why and one said that there’s not much difference in the maturity of males in their 20’s and their 40’s so you might as well hang out with the ones who don’t have a gut, man boobs, are balding and who last longer in bed. Wow! Makes me think of that Minutemen song, Shit You Hear At Parties. So, that was my Saturday night in hipster LA.
