Fanatics! Hello from gray and rainy Stockholm Sweden. Last night I was in Gothenburg for the first show of the year and it was a great time. Tonight’s show is sold out and should be a blast. I have done a lot of shows in this town and I have done a lot of shows in tonight’s venue, The Rival. Bright and early in the morning I will be heading out to Munich Germany to meet up with the tour bus and road manager Ward. ‡ Now, onto tonight’s show. It’s all Dischord, all night. One of the great American indepent labels and a blueprint for many other labels. I was lucky enough to be there at the beginning of the label’s inception and it was a very exciting time. I had no idea what it would later become. To give the listener the even broadest overview of the mighty Dischord catalog, it would take at least a couple of broadcasts as the label has so many bands and songs. So, tonight, we are going to hear tracks that I am familiar with and I hope you enjoy it but if there are bands and songs that you are missing, please remember the sheer volume of music on this label. Ok Fanatics, by the time you are listening to the show tonight, I will be on my way to Arlanda Airport to catch the flight to Munich, Rainer Fassbinder’s hometown. On the 16th July 2007 a gig took place which has been described by many as one of the best punk gigs of all time! As a benefit for Paul Fox who had been diagnosed with inoperable Cancer, it was a gig born of tragic circumstances that had a profound effect on everyone there, fans and artists alike. All the artists performed for free and all egos were left at the door. The ‘plug in and play’ nature of the night and the limited time available meant that we got the very best from every artist and many of them performed with an intensity and vibrancy reminiscent of the early days. Nobody who managed to get one of the much sought after tickets and was lucky enough to attend that night was left in any doubt that they were witnessing a truly historic event. This short film shows the highlights of that night and has been specially edited to celebrate the launch of the Limited Edition Tribute DVD from the event.
